Energy Efficiency: hinted at in the Deal, leveraged in the Plan

The Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal, published today, lacks meaningful recognition of the role of energy efficiency in boosting the EU’s industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation, while the parallel Action Plan for Affordable Energy foresees actions to leverage energy efficiency to cut energy bills for households and businesses.
Arianna Vitali, Secretary-General of the Coalition for Energy Savings said: “Energy efficiency solutions are readily available net-zero technologies, largely made in Europe, that make industries more competitive and cleaner by reducing their energy costs and emissions. It is counterintuitive that the Clean Industrial Deal does not further leverage energy efficiency as a win-win to boost both competitiveness and decarbonisation.”
Giulia Zilla, Chairwoman of the Steering Committee of the Coalition for Energy Savings and Energy & Environment Policy Director at APPLiA said: “The Action Plan for Affordable Energy positively foresees new initiatives to boost energy efficiency, including providing consumers with better access to efficient appliances and supporting energy efficiency services. The next step is to identify clear action points to truly drive the widespread adoption of energy efficiency solutions to cut energy bills, improve energy security and double down on efforts to implement the current energy efficiency framework.”
