Saving energy for a secure Energy Union

Brussels, 4 December 2014 - The Coalition for Energy Savings has published a position paper on the Energy Union, calling for a savings test to be introduced to place energy efficiency first in energy infrastructure decisions. Such a test should be applied to all potential projects to be included in the Jobs, Growth and Investment Package, as well as, included in the pillars of the Energy Union. It would ensure that before deciding whether to invest in new energy generation or transmission infrastructure, or renegotiate supply contracts, consideration would be given to whether investing in Europe’s energy efficiency infrastructure is more cost-effective.
