2 May 2017, Brussels – REScoop, which represents the voice of citizens and renewable energy cooperatives to European policy makers, and ECOS, the pan-EU NGO defending the environment in the development of standards, have joined the Coalition for Energy Savings.
The two organisations join 31 other businesses, professionals, local authorities, trade unions, consumer and civil society organisations who are striving to make energy efficiency and savings the first consideration of energy policies and the driving force towards a secure, sustainable and competitive European Union.
“The EU should empower citizens and cooperatives in their quest for energy democracy. Renewable energy cooperatives increasingly invest in energy savings, which is why we are joining the Coalition for Energy Savings to take down the legislative barriers to these investments”, said Dirk Vansintjan, President of REScoop.
“Our work to defend the interests of civil society and the environment in the development of standards and product policies in relation to energy efficiency has contributed to improve the EU’s achievements in this area. Today, we are joining forces with industry, consumers and other environmental NGOs to promote the development of an Energy Union based on ambitious policies combined with robust standards”, said Laura Degallaix, Director of ECOS, the European Environmental Citizens Organisation for Standardisation.
