Brussels, 25 February 2015 – In the Energy Union strategy released today, the European Commission commits to ensure that energy efficiency competes on equal terms with energy generation.

Brussels, 4 December 2014 - The Coalition for Energy Savings has published a position paper on the Energy Union, calling for a savings test to be introduced to place energy efficiency first in energy infrastructure decisions. Such a test should be applied to all potential projects to be included in the Jobs, Growth and Investment Package, as well as, included in the pillars of the Energy Union.

European Council opts for a meaningless energy efficiency target
Brussels, 15 October 2014 – Yesterday, two studies were presented showing that increasing energy efficiency is cost-effective with binding targets, contradicting the European Commission’s impact assessment for the 2030 climate and energy policy framework.

Brussels, 23 July 2014 – Today, the European Commission Vice-President Oettinger presented the Energy Efficiency Communication, which analyses the EU's progress towards its 2020 energy efficiency target and puts forward an energy efficiency framework for the following years up to 2030. The Communication proposes a 30% energy savings target to be included in the 2030 climate and energy framework but leaves the question of whether the target should be binding open.
