MEP Panayotov (ALDE, BG) hosted a Coalition lunch debate on the employment effects of the Energy Efficiency Directive. Speakers from CECODHAS, the German promotional bank KfW, the European Builders Confederation and German trade unions agreed that energy efficiency measures that deliver quality savings also create quality jobs. Awareness for the immediate public net benefits has to be created. But therefore the implementation and involvement of local governments is at least as important as an ambitious Directive.
